Smokey Oakey being spoilt this morning!

Cat looks down at a man…
Dog looks up at a man…
But a Horse,
Looks a man square in the eye,
and sees him as equal.

Warming up in the indoor ride

An overcast morning but no rain and it is certainly starting to dry up. We have been using the Polytrack surfaces on Long and Warren Hill, where the tractor driver with his harrow has been doing a great job. He does annoy people at times when he jumps in at the bottom of the canter in front of a string but, on the whole, there is always an alternative canter and things sort themselves out.

Omokoroa (Colin) and Forgotten Army (Dan)

Our runner yesterday, Astrodiva, ran as well as could be expected after a long lay-off to finish seventh and we were delighted with her. She will come on a great deal for that and I will be looking at the programme book closely to find her next engagement.

Izzet (Wajid) and Cornish Quest (Little Abby)

Four runners today all at jump meetings. We will start at Uttoxeter, where we run Astrovenus in the 2.10 pm race, the two mile three year old hurdle. She has schooled very well and ran well on the flat last time at Folkestone, so she certainly has a chance of making the frame today. Finger Spin runs next in the two mile National Hunt novice hurdle at 2.40 pm. She showed some ability last year in bumpers and is another that has schooled well but this first outing over hurdles will bring her on no end. At Wetherby, we run Red Barcelona in the three year old hurdle at 2.20 pm. He jumped and ran well for a long way last time and just got tired but this trip, ground and course will suit him today and he loves jumping, so I expect him to run with credit. Our last runner is Astroleo at 4.30 pm in the two and an half mile novice hurdle. He is the only unraced horse in the field and will have it all to do against all these more experienced rivals but saying that he jumps well and with zest, will like the ground, will stay and is in good heart, so let's hope for a good show.

Zenarinda (Nikki), Mystery Star (Maria) and Battery Power (Hannah)

My news on the Cesarewitch front is not good, as I am now down to one runner in Dazinski. This training game drives you barmy as Theola's preparation had gone very smoothly and she was in with a live shout in a very valuable race but she has tweaked a muscle and it will not have the time to recover. She will be roughed off now and have a holiday at Garrowby with the aim next season being the two and an half mile handicap at Royal Ascot and this race again. Dulcie got a little cut on Saturday at York, which has blown up and has needed medication, hence she is ruled out. Another  big blow, as she had run a sound race at York and was spot on for this marathon trip at the weekend. She will be retired now to be a broodmare at Dullingham Park, as there is nothing left for her at this time of the season. That means we are only left with Dazinski, who is to be ridden by Nicky MacKay and,at least, the ground is staying in his favour. The frustration you get when things like this happen is unbelievable and it is so disappointing for all the connections, who have been so looking forward to the big day.

Locum (Zeeshan)

What can you say about the England football team - completely and utterly clueless and that ranges from the management to the players. If we are still having to play Wright Phillips, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel and as for the so-called stars of the team , they shouldn't be paid buttons. They were very lucky to get away with a draw as the bar came to their rescue with the goalkeeper being another completely clueless one. He looks more interested in his hair than in his position and agility on the pitch. In my opinion, the sooner we get an English manager, get rid of most of the foreign, money-orientated players in our leagues, give home-grown players a chance with a minimum of four under 21's in every team the better. If we can't beat Montenegro at Wembley even the Faroe Islands will be fancying their chances!
