The turf season is just around the corner ...

Day two of the Cheltenham Festival

"Homecoming means coming home to what is in your heart."

It’s a bright, sunny morning, dry, no wind and a lovely warm temperature. The horses have had a couple of really busy days so we are keeping it nice and quiet today and just doing one canter on the polytracks close to home. Once the grass comes through the horses will be able to have a nice pick after exercise, which they will enjoy.

Maintaining the gallops between lots

Topalova didn’t run that badly last night, but she did appear to have a bit of sat nav problem in the straight when she came very wide. I do think she will be better over two miles.

Flying over the yard at the weekend

I left the stud at 2.45 this morning to go to Gloucester with Astromagick. She is due for a covering with Charm Spirit, who stands at Tweenhills. We have had really bad traffic problems with one of the major motorways shut causing me to take a diversion. I’m not too far away from Cheltenham and I am sure that is adding to the weight of traffic. However, Astromagick is a very good traveller and taking it all in her stride.

The first day of Cheltenham got off to a flying start with a couple of long price winners.  Richard and I have started at a steady pace in our tipping competition with Richard taking an early lead however, there are three more days to go and a lot more races to study and I am sure it won’t be long before I get my head in front.
