The new game machines are set to go in the shops ...

One runner tonight

"O! for a horse with wings!

William Shakespeare.

Another warm morning - in fact the radio informed me as I drove in at 10 to 5 that not only is it the longest day of the year but it's going to be the hottest as well. We have had all the horses out and kept them close to home with a good canter and then a refreshing cold shower. Everything has gone well so far.

Lost The Moon

We have one runner tonight at Chelmsford - Four Fifty Three runs at 6.10 in the seven furlong Novice Stakes. It all happened much too quickly for him last time at Leicester, where he was slowly away. This trip will suit him better but I would think there will be a few horses sharper than him tonight.

Ascot started with a flood of blue winners which will have kept Sheikh Mohammed and his family very happy. The weather was so warm that the gentlemen were allowed to take off their jackets which must be a first. As I said above it could be even hotter today so let's hope the air conditioning systems are working. Our tipping competition got off to a quietish start although there were plenty of each way prices. Today's selections are below.

2.30  Le Brivido  3.05  Mrs Gallaher  NAP  3.40  Qemah  4.20  Highland Reel

5.00  George William  5.35  Queen Of Time

2,30  Le Brivido  3.05  Out Of The Flames  3.40  Turret Rocks NAP  4.20  Highland Reel

5.00  Abe Lincoln  5.35  On Her Toes

Yesterday Richard had a 4 to 1 winner, so is minus £10. Mark, in spite of good each way results, ended up minus £60.

Velvet Voice

It was marvellous to see the Queen looking so happy and enjoying the day yesterday and to see the younger Royals involved as well. It all augurs well for the future. She will be having a bit of a rush on today with the State Opening of Parliament and then the trip back to Windsor in time for the procession - it may be that the timing means she misses the ride down the course, but I'm sure she'll be there for all the racing.
