Khaled shows Ice Magic to some potential clients

"I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow but, through it all, I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing".

Wajid leads Munro's Dragon around the pre-sale parade ring

A very mild morning and we have just been ticking over up the Long Hill Polytrack with the first few lots. We will be running several two year olds at this week's Newmarket meetings on Friday and Saturday.

Maria holds Omokoroa while a potential client inspects him

We have two runners today, starting with Watch Chain at Lingfield in the 5.10 pm race. What a terrible draw he has got, in stall 11, and Ashley will certainly have to have his brain in gear if he is to give it any chance. It is so frustrating when you get drawn this wide and it is mostly a complete waste of a day and the money; you can see why so many people self-certificate and have a non-runner. Mystery Star runs at Wolverhampton tonight at 6.20 pm, in a race that is worth winning, and Richard Hughes rides. It would be great for the sport if he could ride a few more winners this week and get closer to Paul Hanagan, who has had such a fantastic season. Mystery Star likes this surface and tactics will be everything in this race - let's hope we get it right.

The Act One ex Torcross colt being long-reined around the Severals

Our first lot of horses sold yesterday and, if you didn't have a Dubai Carnival type of horse, you had very little chance of making proper money. The £5,000 to £25,000 order for jumpers that has been so plentiful the last few years has completely dried up and most of the lesser horses were being hoovered up to race abroad. That is where a few of mine went but all to good homes, as I talked to most of the purchasers afterwards.
