We have had a good morning

Velvet Voice

It’s a slightly overcast morning, but no wind and it is warm. I am sure there are still plenty of showers to come in the next week as it looked that way on the forecast last night. Let’s hope we can get some settled weather as predicting the ground conditions at the moment, is a day to day guessing game. Windsor went from soft, to good to firm in two days. It is quite amazing how this happens. We have had a good morning with everybody in, rider wise, just one non-runner through illness with the yard staff. All the horses have been cantering on the polytracks on Southfields and Hamilton Hill. All has gone well.

We have no runners today but four tomorrow. The two-year-olds are beginning to shape up now as we are putting more fast work into them. We were delighted with how Topapinion ran on Friday evening at Newmarket, in a race that every horse that ran will certainly win races, if staying sound. You could only be delighted with how he took the preliminaries, the stalls, where he must have been in for at least 10 minutes, and the race. He just needs a little bit more time and will make a cracking three-year-old.

It was very sad to see Permian break a leg in Chicago at the weekend, but these things happen and there is just no way of telling when an injury will occur. I see there has been a lot of social media chatter about it, some of it very ill advised. Our racehorses are the most pampered and looked after horses in the world, with veterinary care second to none. Nobody likes to lose a horse in this way, and there is absolutely no need for comments without the facts.

As I mentioned on Friday, I am in the Newmarket commentary team on the 23rd September. The meeting is in Newmarket and we need to raise as much money as possible for the charity. Please go on the link for my Just Giving page and thanking you in advance for your generous donations
