A lovely, clear morning

A lovely, clear morning but it felt more like March than May out on Racecourse Side with a biting wind. The rain over the weekend has freshened up the ground and the Flat gallop rode really well with the horses making a nice print. All the horses worked well and it was interesting to see how much they had progressed for their first run of the year.

Moon Lightning ran a great race to be 2nd, only beaten a neck, so had obviously come on for his first run and should be getting his head in front in the near future. Astrovenus ran a nice race to be 4th but looks as if she is going to need a mile and an half; she is handicapped now and, when stepped up in trip, she will be seen to better advantage. Blinka Me ran a game race to win by a neck yesterday, making virtually all under a good ride from Simon Pearce.

It is all doom and gloom in the office this morning with Arsenal going down to Blackburn, having scored early on and then letting them score twice. They shall have to play better than that if they are to hold on to third place in the league!
