Zeeshan pulls out first lot on Astrovenus

"Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself..."

Exeter ride - all ready for the start of a new day

A really hard frost overnight and it is still a few degrees below, as we have a very clear, bright morning. It is actually lovely out on the Heath today with the bright sunshine but very cold, especially on the feet and ears. All the Newmarket trainers got a text from the Heath Manager at 5.50 am to let us all know that the new winter rules had come into play for the first time this year. We are now using one of the canters as a walking ground rather than as a canter because the walking grounds themselves are too hard and dangerous. We have been able to get the first two lots out for a canter, which is a great credit to the Heath staff.

Ron leads second lot across the Bury Road

Astrodiva ran a good sound race to be second last night and it looks from that, as if she will be very similar to her dam, in needing at least a mile and six furlongs to be seen at her best. Nevertheless, I was delighted to get her back on track after her recent poorish runs and I am sure she is more at home on the polytrack surfaces. Astrodonna could never get involved and I feel they go a bit too quick for her in the early part of the race on this surface. She may be better on the all-weather over a bit further, probably a mile and a quarter. I have also schooled her over hurdles and that is another alternative but she has already won four races and will make a lovely broodmare.

What is he saying?

Don't forget to vote for Tony McCoy on Sunday's Sports Personality of the Year programme. He is without doubt the best jump jockey that has ever ridden; he is totally dedicated, ultra-professional and a very caring person. All-in-all, a top man, so get your voting finger in gear on Sunday night.
