Darren makes sure all the horses are fed and that all is ready for their return from exercise

A very wet, soggy morning and it looks like this rain is set in for the day. First two lots have been out and had a good canter but I will be leaving the next two lots in the indoor school, as it would be stupid to get them very wet and they can have just as good an exercise inside, as they would have if I took them out.

The King George at Kempton on Saturday produced a new kid on the block in Long Run, who was given a very good ride by his owner's son and what a great family occasion the whole event was. It is always disappointing when a great champion is beaten but I am sure that if the connections decide to run in the Gold Cup, Kauto Star will put up an improved performance. He never looked to be travelling in the very sticky ground and his mistake was a tired one. This is the excitement of racing and the unpredictability of it, when we get new pretenders to the top every year, whether it be jumping or the flat. The crowds flocked to see this good meeting, even on a Saturday in January and this is what 'Racing for Pennies' should be concentrating on.

We had some owners here this morning, second lot, as you can see from above. I always tell them it is the worst time of year to see the two year olds, as their coats have not come and they are going through that growing stage, as well as starting to learn what is expected of them. It is always great when you have enthusiastic owners and they will see a big difference in the spring: as we were saying, the dream starts here.

A good win for Arsenal at the weekend and the top of the Premiership is now starting to look closer. The Owls were 2-0 down after six minutes but fought back in the second half for a 2-2 draw and should have won it, as they had a penalty saved. They have got to start winning matches from now on, if they are to maintain their promotion push.
