A very mild morning after plenty of rain last night; the forecast was for the temperature to drop considerably this week but, so far, it has kept up well. We have been out with first lot on Warren Hill and the training grounds are really starting to get busy now with most of the horses, that have had a break, being back in the yards. From now on everybody will be in full flow, getting the ground work and the preparation into their charges.

I see Kevin Darley, the professional jockeys' chief executive, is playing down the opposition to the half riding fees on a non-runner debate. I mentioned this when it was first muted and why we didn't give them £2 a ride extra is beyond me, as it would have benefitted all the jockeys, rather than annoy owners and trainers. I hope it is not too late to change this rule, which I think would be a very sensible decision.

Still no foals but we are getting nearer with one or two of the mares starting to bag up. The first due date is tomorrow and from then onwards, hopefully, we will have a good run. We have nearly sorted out the stallions to use this year and I will be having another look at a few of them tomorrow, along with a couple of owners, so that we can finally firm up our plans.
