A bright, sunny morning but still on the cold side, as the wind is not strong but there is enough strength in it for us to keep on our coats and the rugs on the horses. We have just had a normal morning with good healthy canters and so far we haven't had a loose one! Everything is moving well and, even more pleasing, is that they look healthy and happy.

Iain and David left at the crack of dawn with the big box to take some backward, two year old fillies up to Garrowby for a couple of months of daily turnout. They have learnt what is expected of them in training but will not be forward enough to be early season runners, so a couple of months of growing, developing and getting some 'Doctor Green' into themselves  will do them a power of good. They will be coming back into training at the end of April or the beginning of May with a view to running from mid-August onwards. We are very lucky to have such a fantastic facility to do this.

I see the Gambling Commission has just published the results of a survey as to how the British public bet. It seems to me that there is still a great interest in gambling and 73% of the population had a bet or an interest in one way or the other, whether it was the Lottery or slot machines. Their conclusion was that only 14% of adults bet online and the others like to bet in person. It didn't break down these figures, giving the actual level of gambling on the internet, as I am sure there is a very high monetary turnover on the net.

The new foal continues to do well and Meg tells us that she will be clever, determined and have lots of stamina. She really is a nice foal with such an intelligent head and clear markings. The others are getting much nearer and we are starting to cover mares for next year already - it never stops.
