A very foggy morning....

Astroleo ( ),

A very foggy morning with drizzle in the mist, so it was hard to see anything unless you got up close to the canters. Being a Wednesday, a lot of strings had gone to different places to work, so Warren Hill grass was quiet and we could get out and back without too much fuss. All went well and I am always relieved on days such as this that we returned safely, as crossing the roads in fog can be tricky, especially if the car drivers are impatient.

Caroline, hard at work, making sure all is ready for the horses return

A marvellous first day at Cheltenham with great racing and it looked like the crowds were as big as ever. We are going down there today with Akula, who runs in the 4.40 pm race, the Fred Winter juvenile handicap. He is very entitled to take his place and his form stands up well. However, you need plenty of luck-in-running in this type of race with 23 young horses charging at the hurdles but I am pretty confident we can put up a good show.

Colin returns to Flint Cottage, leading Barwick

We had a very welcome visitor this morning in Declan Murphy who, in my opinion, was a tremendous jockey; very sadly, he had to retire prematurely due to a very bad accident. He had everything a jockey needed: a great judge of pace, nerve and that touch of madness, which is always required. He rode me one of my two Bula winners in Staunch Friend and would have gone right to the top, if not for his accident. He tells me he is going to come and ride out for us in the summer.
