Another drizzly, misty morning

First lot cross the all-weather canters, heading towards Warren Hill grass

Another drizzly, misty morning - the third in a row. It would be nice to have a fortnight of really warm, spring weather, which would get the grass growing. A mixed morning with horses going in all directions. The racehorses have been schooling and cantering and a couple of the mares have gone for coverings, one to the Royal Studs at Sandringham and the other to Darley. We are starting slowly to get them into foal but, once again, warm weather would help this.

Walking home in the mist

Akula didn't run quite up to expectations yesterday at Cheltenham and we will do a few tests on him in the next couple of weeks just to check him out. It is a tremendous meeting and yesterday belonged totally to the Irish, who were in full voice, as well as toasting their winners with plenty of liquid sustenance. I am told the crowd was slightly down yesterday from the first day but there looked to be plenty of people to me and the atmosphere was fantastic. This meeting is very similar to Royal Ascot on the flat in that you need the right horse to go into battle.

Again, not very good but don't forget there is still two days to go and Phil and I are very confident we will get it right but what a nightmare day it is today. Black cats and pins spring to mind.
