An overcast morning with just a slight breeze....

Dictate (Hannah)

An overcast morning with just a slight breeze and it is certainly feeling a little cooler today. Once again, we have been inundated with enthusiastic owners, starting with Gerry and H, who are involved in Ted Spread and Barwick. Then, second lot, the Noblett family and friends plus Duncan Sinclair all arrived to see their horses canter on the Heath. Afterwards, Angie took them to see their new foal at the stud. We have had a real week of visitors but it is marvellous to see their enthusiasm, as the new flat season gets nearer.

Astroverdi (Ashley)

One runner today at Stratford in the 2.55 pm race, Miss Wendy. She has been placed a couple of times over hurdles, this trip should suit, she jumps well and Mattie Bachelor rides. I would be very hopeful of her being thereabouts, the dangers look to be Hypnotic Gaze and Rhyton.

It is the conclusion of the Carnival series at Meydan in Dubai today with some fantastic racing and all the races are well over the tariff in prize money!! The World Cup itself at 5.35 pm will be worth nearly £4 million alone and, hopefully, it will come back to Newmarket in one way or another. I would love to see Twice Over win for Henry Cecil and Tom Queally, especially as he is by Observatory, by whom we have a cracking horse for sale.

A victory of another kind was achieved yesterday in the High Court, when the judge decided that the Local Council had got its core strategy legally flawed. This means a great deal to everybody in Newmarket, who have been campaigning against the Hatchfield Farm building development of Lord Derby. I hope he drops his appeal now and we can all get on with training horses, rather than going on demonstrations.

A great sporting weekend with England playing both cricket and football,  the World Cup in Dubai and The Owls playing away at Dagenham and Redbridge - what more could sport fans want.
