First lot on Warren Hill this morning

Another absolutely glorious morning with no wind but just clear, blue sky. We have been doing two canters up Warren Hill polytrack this morning with everything and it has been a bit like Piccadilly Circus with TV crews everywhere. They are doing pieces for the programmes to be shown later on the Newmarket-trained Guineas runners. There were plenty of horses about and I must blow our own trumpet here, when I say our red livery stands out amongst all the strings using the Heath. It is a big thank you to our yard sponsor, Russell Trew, who has given us this branding.

It has been an unbelievable week for foaling at Dullingham Park, as hot on the heels of Twelfth Night and Laheen, Missouri had a lovely filly foal by Beat Hollow yesterday and then, last night, Astrolove produced a colt by Virtual. All are doing well and we now only await Topatori, who is in foal to Halling. This warm weather is marvellous for the young foals, as we can get them out for a good exercise in perfect conditions.

Sir Mark Prescott and I were chatting about the whip debate this morning on the Heath and we decided it was very simple to sort it out. Just pick a number, either 5 or 6, and stick to the rules. If the number is 5 and most jockeys are good at counting, that is the number they can hit them behind the saddle and regardless of the race, whether it be the Derby or the Grand National, the horse is disqualified if the jockey hits it more than the limit. Everybody, whether owner, trainer or public, would understand this rule and it would sort this debate out once and for all and very quickly.
