A sunny morning.....

A sunny morning but the temperature has certainly dropped from last week and it feels quite chilly in the breeze, which is sweeping across the Heath. Just one canter this morning with most of them, as they worked yesterday and a good pick of grass out of the wind, in the lee of the wood, on Long Hill.

It was very sad to read of the death of Sadler's Wells this morning. He was a fantastic age at 30 and died at home in his paddock at Coolmore. He has been, without doubt, the most influential stallion of all time and was leading sire on 14 occasions - a quite unbelievable achievement. His record is truly incredible and he passed on so many wonderful attributes; in particular, great ability and marvellous temperaments. It will be a long time before we see his like again. He has three top class living sons, as stallions, at present in Galileo, Montjeu, and High Chaparral.

Everything is building up in the town this week to the Guineas Festival at the weekend and let's hope we just get a smattering of rain to help the racetrack maintain the ground. I cannot see further than Henry Cecil's colt, Frankel, for the colt's classic and in the 1000 Guineas, my each-way would be the champion filly of last year, Hooray, who I believe is now beginning to please her trainer a bit more. What a weekend to look forward to.
