At long last, we have had some heavy showers. A long way from being enough but it's a start and I am very grateful for anything. The forecast is for showers for the next few days and I don't think the temperature is going to rise very much, so it should be doing the ground some good. I have not been galloping this morning, as I have got them fit and ready to run; now, we need to get them out on the track, which is looking a lot more hopeful in the next fortnight.

One runner today at Brighton, where the ground is good-to-firm, firm in places! It suits us today but it just goes to show what we are up against with the ground and the clerks of the courses, as they have been calling it good-to-firm and state they have been watering all weekend. Then, this morning, we get a text and it is updated on the computer to good-to-firm, firm in places, which means it will be like a road. Honesty is what we want from the tracks. Astroleo ran well last time but the handicapper has seen fit to raise him 7 lbs from now onwards and I have been forced to run him today. If he handles the unique Brighton track, he must run well and Charles Eddery gets a very handy 7 lbs off his back. Also, there should be plenty of pace on today, which will suit.

I couldn't agree more with John Gosden's call in the Racing Post for more media coverage of the Derby. If we cannot get on every radio bulletin, TV station and in every newspaper, it is a very poor show. I am fed up with hearing, on all the sport's bulletins, news of tennis players, etc., who are in minority sports. We are the second sport to football, in terms of spectators and interest, so why can't we promote ourselves better. It is a big question that need answering.

They say the Tote is going to be announced today and about time too. I keep saying whoever gets it needs to crack on and this is one of the turning points in the industry, which must be taken and exploited for the good of the industry. If it isn't, it will be another missed opportunity.
