A lovely morning with a slight breeze, in fact, the sort of morning where you realize how lucky you are to be out on Newmarket Heath. Most of the older horses had a nice canter up Long Hill polytrack with the two year olds staying on Warren Hill. The horses have pretty much come in their summer coats and were gleaming in the morning sunshine.

We were pleased with Comrade Bond yesterday, as he broke sharply but still showed signs of inexperience, in what looked probably the hottest two year old maiden of the year so far. He should not be too long in winning and looks the sort to improve throughout the year.

Today, we have two runners at York, Mystery Star and Imjin River and Number One Guy at Newmarket. Mystery Star starts the afternoon off in the 2.10 pm; he ran a good race at Pontefract first time out this year and has been in good form since but he is drawn 17 of 19 and this looks a pretty competitive affair. Even though, they are going a mile and an half, the draw is still very significant because you either have to use up a lot of energy early on getting a good position or you drop across and have to rely on getting a run in the straight. Nevertheless, we shall be disappointed if he does not run a nice race.

Imjin River runs in the 3.45 pm, where he is dropping right back in trip to 5 furlongs from 7 furlongs. He patently did not stay the 7 furlongs last time and he shows a lot of speed, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on over this trip. Both horses have travelled up there well and eaten up, so let us hope that we can finish the meeting with a winner.

Number One Guy runs in the 2.30 pm, where he is having his first run of the year, having finished last year with a win in a Yarmouth nursery; he looks an improving sort, having done well over the winter and has been working nicely this spring, so even though this looks a competitive affair we are hopeful of a good run.
