A perfect morning

Don't worry about the world coming to an end today, it's already tomorrow in Australia.

06-07-03A perfect morning for working horses

The wide open spaces of Newmarket are seen at their best on a morning like today. We have had no more rain and in fact the Heath Foreman tells me that we only had 8 mls. of rain over night, so my plans for going on the Peat Moss were scuppered and we came down the Watered Gallop, which was in great condition as they had moved it onto a completely new piece of ground.

It was a very long day yesterday with my alarm going off at its normal time at 5.05, and after working horses, having a trustee meeting of the Ashley Club and then driving to Pontefract for the evening races. So I didn't get back home until just after 11 last night. Just a normal day in a trainers' life. Our two runners ran slightly differently. Battery Power delighted me on ground which would be on the fast side for her and, like all the family, she will stay a lot further in time. Watch Chain did his normal thing, which is letting us think he was going to run well only for things not to fall his way.

The foals are really growing and developing at the Stud. They look a great bunch for evenly matched colts and fillies. (There are some recent pictures on the Stud page). We have had to do very little corrective work on them this Spring and it all bodes well for the future. Touch wood all the mares have got in foal and it looks like it is going to be a very busy 2012.
