An overcast day and the forecast is for it to rain this morning but as yet we have had nothing. I have just talked to an owner in London who informs me it is tipping down and he said he would go outside and blow it our way. If only we could get a good downpour it would make the ground perfect for this weekend's racing. Two good canters with the first two lots and we are about to put a few through the stalls on Bury Hill's polytrack, just to remind them what they are before they run this weekend.

It was so disappointing to see So You Think caught in the last 50 yards but Aiden O'Brien blamed himself for leaving the horse a bit short of work, as he had a really good blow afterwards. It would have been tremendous for our friend, Mike , to have seen a great victory but I am sure he will redeem his reputation shortly. Take nothing away from the winner, who was very game under a particularly hard ride from Frankie Dettori and is a top class horse. It is often works out that when the sire dies or is moved to a foreign country his offspring come to the fore and this has certainly happenend with Tiger Hill.
This race brings the whip ban to everybody's mind and with Frankie hitting the horse 24 times in the final two furlongs an enquiry was held. He was subsequently banned for nine days, which to my mind is very light. In cases like this, a two month ban would sort this problem out once and for all.

Somebody must have been reading my website yesterday, as Kevin Darley was the expert analyst, rather than Mick Fitzgerald. I hope this continues all week. Freddie Head also commented that the circumstances surrounding  Goldikova's defeat on Tuesday were horrible and rather depressing. For a top jockey to do that is very unprofessional and for anybody that had backed her, it would have been very disappointing.

Royal Ascot tipping competition - Day 3

After two day's of racing , Phil is leading with a healthy profit of £161.75. Mark is showing a loss of £107, as does Sam, being £83.25 down.

But it is a long way to go and I had four seconds yesterday, so Phil who is crowing a bit at present can still be caught and I am in a positive mood. My godson improved very little yesterday and will have to get out of bed earlier and burn the midnight oil studying the form.
