In and out as quickly as possible ...

Day 4 of Royal Ascot....

"Tolerance is the one essential ingredient … You can take it from me that the Queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance."

Colin Williams on the gallops with MHT

An overcast morning and the forecast is for a good bit of rain today but I never believe it until it is actually happening. We did eventually get a nice drop yesterday, which has helped the ground and the first lot workers went over to the Peat Moss on Racecourse Side. For those owners who know Colin Williams, he came out first lot and is well on the way to recovery. It may not be this year that we will see him back on a horse but we hope next year.

Two runners today, both at Newmarket tonight. Battery Power runs in the mile and an half classified stakes at 6.30pm. She ran well on her reappearance at Pontefract over a mile and a quarter and this trip will suit her better, so I expect her to put up a bold show tonight. My Guardian Angel makes his debut in the 6 furlong maiden for 2 year olds at 7.05pm. He is a big, good-looking son of Araafa and the first foal of Angels Guard You, who never ran but always showed me ability at home. He is from our best family line, started by Angie's father and has been so successful. He should run with credit tonight but will improve greatly for the run and will benefit from further in time.

I see the BBC went back to using a ex-jump jockey to discuss flat racing again. I just cant believe it and am looking forward to the Grand National meeting next year when Willie Carson and Kevin Darley will be discussing jump racing, as if they know what they are doing! Another great day's racing though and Fame and Glory's victory in the Gold Cup was outstanding. Our tipping competition is starting to get closer and would have been even closer if all my seconds had won. Phil is still confident and Sam was up before the cockerel crowed to scan the Racing Post website for information.

Plenty of comment yesterday on the Dettori whip ban and the BHA review of the use of the whip is still in the discussion stage. Once again the big stage has brought it to the fore and it needs to be sorted out once and for all. The main point is that Dettori broke the rules and won the race, whereas Ryan Moore didn't and lost. This is the point that must be sorted out.
