One or two spots of rain...

Tuesday, 21 June 2011

An overcast morning with one or two spots of rain but no more; however, it looks like we shall get some rain before the day is out. We have been on Warren Hill with the horses first lot and then I took some two year olds over to the Peat Moss on Racecourse Side second lot. The ground was lovely and it was nice to get some work into them on the grass.

A slight technical hitch today - Neil suffered from a puncture on the way in to Newmarket and no-one was strong enough to undo the security nut to remove the wheel, even with power tools! The AA man was still able to mend the puncture eventually though, with the wheel still on the car. Apologies for the late up-dating of the site.

We have two runners at Beverley today: Miss Wendy in the claimer at 2.45 and Five Hearts in the maiden at 4.15.

Miss Wendy is coming back from a break and is not that well in at the weights here, particularly with Brian Ellison's runner. We are still hoping she will put up a  decent show, however.

We have not been lucky with the draw for Five Hearts but, again, we are very hopeful that she will acquit herself well.  She is home-bred and is the last foal of Light Hand, who I trained to win a good number of races.

Five Hearts has had only the one run, in a back-end Newmarket maiden last year, but pleased us very much that day finishing fifth of 19. The filly is in good shape but young Ashley will have to be on his mettle to overcome the wide  draw.
