It has been the warmest weekend of the year so far and, in fact, I would think that today we would have had one of the highest temperatures for a long time. It is increibly hot, close and uncomfortable but thunderstorms are forecast and normal conditions will soon return. We have had all the horses out for a canter and they have really enjoyed their wash down afterwards.

We have sent some runners off early this morning up to Scotland to run at Hamilton tomorrow and I hope that they managed to get a good way before the sun really got going. One runner today at Pontefract, Dictate running in the 4.15 pm race. He was very slowly away last time and never got into it over a mile and six furlongs at Goodwood. He has had plenty of stalls' practice since, so will at least get away on level terms today. We shall find out much more about him trip-wise and I am sure Kieren Fallon will be very informative afterwards.

Mystery Star got bogged down in the straight at Newcastle. He doesn't handle that soft, sticky ground but has come back okay and will be aimed at all the big mile and six furlong plus handicaps this summer and autumn. Like Clockwork was very colty and green, both beforehand and in the race itself and a bit like his brother Barwick, he may need to have the operation. It sometimes happens that they give no impression of being like it at home but once at the races their exuberance gets the better of them. I can tell you he is a really cracking horse and we will see his ability in due course.
