010702MHT gives first lot their galloping orders in the racecourse car park

A much cooler morning and, once again, a pleasure to be out on the Heath with the horses. Plenty of owners turned up to see their horses working first lot and, as usual, the banter was flying around. The horses came down the watered gallop, which is still in perfect condition. Everything went well, apart from a couple of wayward horses, whose riders mistook the position of the gallop. I must be getting older, as the following rollocking was very reserved!

A bit of a disappointing day yesterday, especially at Yarmouth. My Guardian Angel, was very colty and Sleigh Bells came back with a condular fracture of the cannon bone, which needed surgery. Watch Chain was having one of his off-days and Cornish Quest badly needing the race. It was slightly better at Epsom, where Cornish Beau ran reasonably well in the first but Saleem Golam failed to get there, due to traffic problems and we had to switch the jockey at the last minute. In fact, the replacement John Fahy gave him a good ride in a race that was not run to suit. Lady Bellatrix was as green as green can be and will leave this form way behind next time. She was slowly away and didn't handle the track after that, as she was always playing catch up.

Two runners tonight at Beverley. Piccarello, who runs in the 7.30 pm race, ran a bit better last time at Newmarket and he is slightly down in trip tonight, so he should run a sound race. Miss Wendy runs in the 9.00 pm race and, as she badly needed the race last time when badly drawn, I am hopeful of a reasonable show tonight.

Two of the painted horses, which are now positioned throughout Newmarket; the above one by the Clock Tower and below the one outside Prezzo's restaurant. They certainly brighten up the town and are well worth a visit.
