An overcast morning and we have had the odd shower but not the deluge of rain we were forecast. Quite a few owners, once again, have visited and they have needed their jackets both first two lots, as the wind makes it feel quite cool. Good canters up the polytrack on Warren Hill was the exercise of the morning.

Our runners last night didn't perform quite as expected but the ground was on the quick side and they would both benefit from some cut, which would be the norm for most of our horses. It has been a bit of a 'nearly' week again and all these placed horses are driving me crazy but I am sure the tide will turn soon.

It is racing everywhere again today, Newbury, Newmarket, Market Rasen and Ripon this afternoon and Haydock and Lingfield tonight. It never seems to stop at present and the jockey problem doesn't get any easier, especially when you have the Weatherby's Super Sprint, which is worth so much money and everybody wants the best jockey on their horse. The one thing that ought to change is the race planning but it would require a strong individual with some power to talk to the racecourses. Also, they would need to have a strong understanding of how the professionals work, i.e. trainers, jockeys, stable staff, etc., before they sit down. It could be done to everybody's satisfaction but it would need give and take on both sides.

It is a move in the right diretion for the USA to ban raceday drugs at the Breeders Cup meeting from 2013 onwards. There is still a long way to go with this worldwide problem and it is certainly not a level playing field in several jurisdictions. Let's hope, at least, this start begins the process, which will clean up this mish-mash of rules.
