In and out as quickly as possible ...

Feels like autumn this morning...

Another overcast morning and it feels more like September than July. You have needed your jacket the last couple of mornings and, although it warms up during the day, the nights are definitely getting colder. I worked a few first lot but, otherwise, we have been cantering on Long Hill, either on the polytrack or the Town Sand.

I have no runners today but I shall be fully employed, continuing our battle against the Hatchfield Farm development.  Whatever Lord Derby's intentions, the building of 1200 homes in Newmarket will have a dramatic and negative effect on the racing industry and we must do everything we can to preserve our ability to train our horses unhindered. We don't want to become an urbanised commuter town.

We have had two instructors from the Italian Racing School riding out this morning. They are in Newmarket to see our facilities and to give them some insight into our training methods. I am always delighted to help these projects and it was a pleasure to meet them and to hear their views on Newmarket.
