Where has summer gone?

Where has summer gone? We had a light shower overnight but it has been another cold and dreary morning. I took half a dozen horses over to the Links first lot to school and worked a couple on the Peat Moss on Racecourse Side, so it has been a hectic start to the day. The rest of the horses have been having either one or two canters on Warren Hill and a pick of grass. Also, I shall need to head off to Goodwood sooner rather than later, as Dazinski runs in the first at 2 o'clock and it is impossible to know how long it is going to take you to get round the M25.

We have two runners today, starting, as I have just said, with Dazinski at Goodwood at 2.00 pm and then followed by Piccarello at Leicester at 6.40 this evening.
Dazinski had been running well this season before he went to Ascot and has looked as if this trip would be right up his street. He has the assistance of Kieren Fallon this afternoon and if he stays the 2 miles and 5 furlongs, he must have a chance on his best form. You need a bit of luck in running in these big handicaps but we shall keep our fingers crossed that all goes well.
Piccarello has not reproduced this season, any of the promise that he showed last season, so we have fitted him with a pair of blinkers this evening. If between them, Philp Robinson and the blinkers can motivate this horse to run up to his best, then again he must have every chance.

I shan't be rushing away from Goodwood after Dazinski's race, as an hour later we have one of the most fascinating races for many a year when Frankel and Canford Cliffs clash. Tactics are going to be crucial in this race and one assumes that Frankel will be allowed to make the running because, if not, it could turn into a muddling race. Rio de la Plata and Rajsaman have some good form between them but they tend to be held up, so it would be marvellous to see a truly run race and may the best man win!
