It's Champions weekend ...

A very fresh morning once again....

"The liberty of the individual must be thus far limited: he must not make himself a nuisance to other people."

A very fresh morning once again, which is absolutely brilliant, as the horses love this weather. They don't get too warm and sweat, which makes it altogether a much better working environment. A normal morning with the horses leaving early to go to Yarmouth, the rest cantering and we have put one or two in the stalls, which were possibly going to run this weekend. It looks like the northern part of the country from The Wash northwards is going to get plenty of rain but we are only forecast sporadic showers, which means the ground will remain firm.

Four runners today at Yarmouth, starting with Cornish Quest in the 2.50 pm race, the 7 furlong handicap, where the favourite is already out. Our horse is a very laid-back character and the application of blinkers might wake him up a bit. In the 4.30 pm race, we run two horses,  Cat Island, another that I have fitted the blinkers to for the first time, and Astroverdi. Both will like the ground and they will have to be competitive today if they are to have a future. I think the trip is about right, so it is up to them. In the last, when most of us have already gone to bed, at 6.05 pm  Battery Power runs. Dubawi Dancer is a withdrawal here and I think she has a chance of winning this.
Whilst on about Yarmouth, I have only just noticed that with the division of the mile handicap, the race is £500 below tariff. These courses get around £5000 to £6000 a race and it is a disgrace that they couldn't make up the extra £1000 in this instance. I will be having a word with the managers when I see them.

Terrible headlines on the front of the Racing Post today about the riots in the country. They have hit around 50 bookies' shops in London, who have had their windows smashed and some have even been set on fire. Let's hope this mindless violence is stopped as soon as possible. We need strong leadership at such a time - we can only hope our politicians are up to it.
