We have had a good dollop of rain this morning, which has come in fits and starts with some really heavy downpours. I am sure, at last, that this will be starting to get into the ground, so it should be on the good side at Newmarket today. We have been inundated with visitors from first lot and they have been dodging the showers, when watching the horses cantering on the Warren Hill polytracks.

One runner tonight at Lingfield with Piccarello running in the mile claimer. He has not troubled the judge much this season but he has been thereabouts in most of his races and could make the frame tonight.
We will be having several runners at Yarmouth on Monday evening, including Comrade Bond, in whom, as I said the other day, there is still a share or two left. Not very good headlines on the front of the Racing Post this morning with Howard Johnson, the trainer, being banned for breaching the horse welfare regulations, as well as administering an illegal drug. As usual, we don't know all the ins-and-outs of the case but when a horse has had a de-nerving operation on his legs both the trainer and vet would be well aware that the said horse shouldn't be running under the rules of racing. Howard has had great success over the years and has been tremendously supported by Graham Wylie, so it is a shame that it had to end in this manner.

We have seen a lot of good two year olds, starting to come out this last month and I am sure there will be a few more to come, who will start to shape the big end of season championship races. It is always to me a very exciting time of year when hopes and dreams can be fulfilled or shattered. This is the great unknown and attraction of racing that every year new horses can lighten up everybody's world and you never know where they are going to spring from.
