200806First lot on Warren Hill

A bright, calm morning here in Newmarket with no rain yesterday and very little dew this morning. We have been having our normal exercise for the first two lots and everybody is excited about today's runner in the Ebor. Horses have already been in the equine pool, which has been in full use all season and I must say a big thanks to our maintenance man, Ryan, who has kept it in great condition. Believe me it takes some doing but he has got the chemicals just right this year and is a dab hand with the hoover.

Only the one runner today because, unfortunately, we have had to withdraw Mystery Star, as he was very stiff when pulling out yesterday. I think he just tweaked a muscle doing his pipe opener - it is disappointing but these things happen. Ted Spread travelled up well to York yesterday and according to David, who travelled him he has eaten up and is in great form. The ground is a bit on the dead side, which shouldn't be too much of a problem and the draw at 12 is fine. All we need now is that most important thing - luck in running. Let's hope we get it.

It is the first time the Ebor has ever been run on a Saturday with this extra day added. I am sure there will be a massive crowd there today and let's hope it will be a great success. You always take a risk when moving these fixtures and I have been very critical in the past about such moves (The Derby and Champion Stakes), which I still think were major mistakes but this one could be benefit everybody.
