Another overcast morning with the temperature being ideal for training horses, which is just how I like it. We have been cantering on the hills again this morning, in anticipation of doing faster work tomorrow. The backward two year olds are really starting to shape up now and will be coming into fast work during September; encouragingly, I think this year's intake are a good bunch and all look to have ability.

Our runner last night, Imjin River, could never get into the right place and, consequently, was unable to trouble the judge but Seb was quite confident that the blinkers had improved him. He felt that from a better draw and with maybe another furlong he would have been involved.

I see the BHA have rejected the call from Mark Johnston, who is now a member of the Board, to alter their instructions to clerks of the courses re: watering the ground. Mark is of the same opinion as me that no artificial watering should be done to alter the state of the going. This debate will go on and on but, as I have stated before, there is no correlation between injury rates and the state of the ground, whether it is hard or heavy on the flat, so hiding behind the animal rights' banner doesn't work.
