As everybody arrived for work this morning, it looked like we had had plenty of rain overnight and it was still in the air. That is why I was quite surprised that all the gallops, including the watered gallop were open but, as they say, "Don't ever look a gift horse in the mouth"; so we proceeded to work two lots on the Peat Moss. All went well and I was especially delighted with the two year olds second lot, who have come on in leaps and bounds for their runs and are now ready to show their true colours.

One runner today at Newmarket in the 1.50 pm race, Toptempo. She is the first foal of Topatoo, who did so well for us, especially at York, where she won 4 races including the Middleton Stakes, Group 3. This is a lovely filly by Halling - a sire I really love - who will benefit greatly from today's outing. The race looks like a normal, high class Newmarket maiden and you could meet next year's Guineas or Oaks winner in it - you never know it may be us.

All this rain is playing havoc with my running plans for the weekend, since all the horses I have entered want good, good-to-firm ground. It drives you bonkers being a trainer and these 48 hour declarations are no good to anybody; the only thing they create is a Saturday card, decimated by non runners. As the going stands at the time of writing, we would not have declared anything for tomorrow. We were told, if we agreed to a 48 hour system, that it would help the punters plan their bets in plenty of time and the newspapers would print the cards but all it does do is produce plenty of non runners. I think a re-look at the whole situation is required.
