An overcast morning but not cold and still very much on the dry side. We have been pretty busy cantering and tidying up everywhere, as the builders have finished the barn wall and we need to let it dry out now and paint it. The maintenance of the yard is like the Forth Road Bridge, as you start at one end and when you get to the other end, you just turn around and start again. It is amazing what horses can do to stable doors and the general wear and tear needs constant attention.

One runner today at Folkestone with Astrovenus running in the 4.20 pm race, the two mile handicap and Tom Queally takes the ride. She has run her two best flat races to date at this course and I think with the ground in her favour, she will put in another good effort; in fact, I am pretty confident that she will run well today.

The first batch of 6 weanlings went up to Garrowby this morning. Iain, along with Aslam and Alison, set off just after 8.00 am on the journey up to Yorkshire. It is amazing how they took the loading-up process; they are very trusting in the staff they know and were absolutely brilliant. They will really benefit from their time at Garrowby, as it is fantastic growing ground with great soil and water and you can see them develop each time you go. It was very common years ago with Newmarket studs to have a Yorkshire rearing ground but it seems to have gone out of fashion of late but I can assure you there is nothing like it.
