A clear blue sky with a bit of a breeze and the temperature has certainly dropped, making it feel like a proper autumn morning. After yesterday, when we were so busy, we have just been doing general cantering and sorting out a few things in the yard today. David has got his clippers oiled and warmed up and is in full swing, clipping the ones that need it.

A mixed day at Yarmouth with the runners yesterday, the highlight being the very unlucky Comrade Bond, who was drawn the wrong side and would, undoubtedly, have won if he had been on the other side. He has been beaten three times now into second place and every time by under a neck. His time is near and I wish the person, commenting on him in the Racing Post, would speak to me, before stating he has an erratic profile, as he did in his analysis today. He has been ultra-consistent this year, apart from when he was very ill after his Kempton run and thoroughly deserves to get his head in front soon.

Two runners today at Newmarket, as Chankillo has been withdrawn. Like Clockwork runs in the 2.00 pm race, the 7 furlong maiden. He has been cut since his last run 99 days ago and will be much better off in handicaps next season. Phantom Ranch makes his debut in the 1m maiden at 3.05 pm. He is the last foal of Highbrook, which makes him a half brother to several winners, including our Group winner, Ted Spread. He has had all sorts of infections this autumn and I have tried several times to get him to the track. He will benefit considerably from today's outing and I expect him to make up into a lovely horse, especially over staying trips as a three year old.
