A bright morning with a clear blue sky and, although we had a bit of rain, we have had nothing like everywhere else. I was amazed yesterday, as I went to Yarmouth, because it was dry here and the nearer you got to the coast, the heavier the rain became. We have been cantering on Bury Side all morning and I am now rushing up to the sales, as our first lot goes through towards the end of the morning. There have been a lot of foreigners, watching horses canter on the Heath this week, so let's hope a few of them are at the sales today.

I was delighted for all the supporters of Comrade Bond yesterday, when he fulfilled the promise he has been showing in his races this year. To be honest, I was not sure about the ground but he handled it well and won quite nicely under a good ride from Ted Durcan and now we might try to follow up next week at Redcar. Shomberg hated the ground but travelled well for a long way, which is always a good sign and he will now be cut and put away for next season.

One runner today at Nottingham, where Akula runs in the two mile handicap at 2.00 pm. He has had a long time off after a hurdling campaign, at which he showed plenty of promise and will be resuming shortly. He has done enough work to run and I expect him to put up a reasonable show, even though he is drawn on the outside of the field. These bad draws seem to be just my luck of late and I know they say it is pot luck but I wish mine with the draws would change soon.
