A damp morning and we have had a bit of rain overnight but not enough to allow us to canter on the grass. It is also very dark in the mornings this week but that will change when the clocks go back at the weekend. As the sales' horses are going and several of the others are having a break at Garrowby, the yard is busy getting steam cleaned and painted, plus there is all the ongoing maintenance to the guttering and the doors, etc. We have also been using a good disinfectant, which will kill all known bugs. The horses have been doing general canters and we still have a few to run on the grass up to the end of next week,  plus we shall have several runners at Newmarket on Friday and Saturday.

Only one runner today, when No Rules runs tonight at 7.30 pm in the two mile handicap, at Kempton, as the blood result on Barwick was not right. This is very disappointing, as he ran well last time and I was hopeful of a good run today. He had not run for a long time, when he re-appeared at Goodwood a fortnight ago but he ran well there for a long way and has come on for the run; however, he will need to get very lucky tonight from draw 13 but I still expect him to put up a reasonable show.
Our runner yesterday, Akula ran well for a long way, until blowing up in the straight and this will have put him right for a good hurdling campaign. He showed good form in that sphere last year and I expect him to improve again this winter.

Marvo (Wajid) gives Chankillo (Charles) a lead, when having a blow before his run tomorrow and Charles gives his feedback after the canter

We found a very good home for these three horses last week and, as you can see from the picture below, they are being completely spoilt, which is absolutely marvellous. They will be having a good break and then will start their re-training programme in the spring. There are plenty of opportunities in a lot of disciplines for these horses whether it be showing, eventing, show jumping, polo, etc. or just being a nice riding horse or friend. It always gives me great pleasure to find them good homes.
