Proper rain at last

Parkinson's First Law.

Smokey Oakey (John) and Chankillo (Charles)

At long last some proper rain. It woke me up at 4 o'clock lashing down and has continued on and off most of the morning. It is very welcome for everybody.  I had a Heath Meeting paper come yesterday with the monthly rainfall figures on it which showed that we had only had 12 inches so far this year in comparison to the average 60 inches for the last 5 years. So according to that we should be in for Noah's Ark weather from now on.

Five of Hearts (Waajid), Jennifer Jay (Lee), Red Hermes (Hannah), and Astroscarlet (Abbi)

I took several horses up to the schooling grounds this morning where we met Colin and Matty and between them we schooled a couple over fences and the others all schooled over full sized hurdles. Even in the driving rain everything went well and the boys agreed that we have tremendous facilities here for teaching young horses how to jump. We will be having quite a few hurdle runners in the next month which should keep everybody interested.

The tractor clearing the water away at the bottom of Long Hill

We were cantering on Long Hill grass for only the first time for ages second lot and after the rain it was in perfect condition. All the horses moved smoothly and enjoyed it especially the two year olds.

Steve Avery lunging the Namid yearling

We had four more yearling fillies arrive down from Garrowby yesterday, and apart from a little bit of shouting, they have settled in well. Steve and David will be starting on with them next week and, as you can see from the above photo, we won't be long having a pilot on board the ones we already have in.
