"Talk low, talk slow, and don't talk too much"

A damp, misty morning but everybody is in cheerful form with plenty of people popping in to see their horses and very kindly pay their bills! We have been cantering on the grass on Long Hill but it was one of those mornings when you couldn't see them jump off  just hear them coming and see them appearing out of the mist. The grass on the hill is in fantastic condition - ironically it will be shut after today.

We have no runners today, but two tomorrow over hurdles at Market Rasen, who have not updated the ground on the BHA website as we speak. This is very annoying to all trainers as it is the one most important item we require, and to top it all they recommend no overnighters because of a firework display in the close proximity. This is even more annoying as we are in the first two races, starting at 1.15p.m. -  so the lads will have to be off before the cockerels even think about crowing. Colzium runs in the 3 year old Hurdle. He has schooled well and looks the part, but will have to show some ability here if he is to be kept for a winter campaign. Koraleva Tectona runs in the next, the 2 miles 3 furlongs Novice Hurdle. She ran respectably on her hurdles debut at Worcester but will have to up her game to beat the favourite. She loves jumping and is a very enthuiastic filly. Let's hope they both run well.

The Breeders' Cup tonight or at least the second day, which is the best, and Europe has several runners. They have not had too much help from the authorities if you follow the Racing Post daily, but we usually have a good runner or two and it will be great watching. Open a bottle of wine and a pork pie and enjoy the night.
