Damp but mild

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidy, and I'm not sure about the former."

Albert Einstein.

A mild morning which is becoming the norm at present. We had Peter Carberry riding out this morning for us on his way to Huntingdon. We were talking about the weather and he told me he had been to Down Royal at the weekend where the temperature was very cold. I schooled a couple at first lot and the rest have been cantering on the various all weathers.

MarvoiiiMarvo runs today

Two runners today at Huntingdon which is our most local track. Marvo runs in the novice hurdle at 2.20p.m.  He had a couple of runs last year and was slightly disappointing on both occasions. He jumps very well and likes the ground, so the only explanation I had was that he didn't stay. He stays a mile and one well on the flat so I see no reason why he should not  get the trip round this circuit. In the last race, which is the three year old bumper, we run Ron for the first time. He is a great big horse, well over seventeen hands and has been on the weak and backward side, but lately he has been starting to show some ability as he has grown into his frame. It will be interesting to see how he compares with his age group today.

RonRon is also running at Huntingdon today

We are redeveloping the Ashley Club in Newmarket as I have mentioned before. At our AGM meeting yesterday it was interesting to see the actual plans of how it will look when all the alterations are done. It has been more of a working men's club type of building for so long, but now it will get a complete makeover and be upgraded into a modern centre for the whole community. A  brand new up-to-date gym with horse equicisers, along with saunas and new changing rooms are part of the first stage. A creche that opens at the right time to suit the racing industry is being started, and new offices where Racing Welfare staff will be able to discuss any problems or inquiries anybody may have. The old style bar where you come in to the premises will be revamped into a modern coffee sports bar. It's all very exciting and not before time. The new director, Matt Mancini, has already persuaded people to come in in much greater numbers. His Curry Nights and Kid's Club have proved hugely popular already. The sporting programme is in full swing, even if one of my lad's came limping into the yard this morning after getting kicked playing football last night - and they lost as well!

The yearlings are coming along very well and they are reaching the stage now where the first intake are being sat on.
