Smokey (Abbie) back to work leading the now two year olds, in shot Fredrick Alfred (Lee)

I hope everybody enjoyed a good break and had a very happy Christmas and New Year. Now it's great to get back to work and with the weather being as mild as it is, although we have had pretty high winds over night, we can get out on the Heath and start the process of bringing the horses back to peak fitness. They all returned from their holidays in Yorkshire and look pictures with good healthy skins and plenty of condition on them. They have all been clipped out with David doing the last ones this morning. We shall take it slowly and build them up gently. I am very optimistic about this year as I have several potential high class three year olds along with a well handicapped bunch of horses.

There has been a lot of tremendous racing over the Christmas period with massive crowds. It was only disappointing yesterday as, although it was a bank holiday, the only jump racing was at Ayr and then at Plumpton and Folkestone - the latter two who are within a very short distance of one another. We also had another poor card at Southwell on the flat. I just wish we could get this race planning right. We have still not yet received the programme book for 2012. It's on the internet but not in hardback which is what all the professionals use.

My New Year resolutions are to continue to do everything in my power to have healthy horses, place them correctly, and use the best jockeys possible - plus once again to lose weight, not swear quite as much (that'll please my mother), and not to give Phil and Ian too much stick about Arsenal.

You have a few days to enter Phil's Christmas Quiz which has proved very popular and from the comments I have had has provided hours of endless amusement. The unusual prize awaits the winner. I must also comment on the tremendous start to the year that the Owls have made with two great wins over the holidays, if they can just keep it up then promotion is ours.
