"Don't agonise, organise."

              No Rules (Butch)

A very windy start to the morning - it had started blowing very hard last night and has continued with big gusts and heavy rain. David did set off up to Garrowby with two horses, but after a huge lorry was blown across the carriageway in front of him, he soon aborted his journey and will try again tomorrow. We have ventured out onto the Heath at second lot, and the ones that I am keeping going up had a good canter up the Long Hill polytrack. There had been a tree down on Side Hill which meant that had to be closed to everything except jumpers!

Chankillo (Lauren)

Both our runners yesterday ran as I prophesied. The ground was very sticky at Huntington as it does tend to be there, but Cotton Grass jumped very well and I think, once she is handicapped and on better ground, she is sure to win over hurdles. Marvo couldn't find one good enough to lead him far enough, was left in front much too early, and was once again unlucky. He likes it round Lingfield and will be going back there shortly.

Circling on Long Hill

I see Racetech, the firm which supplies much of the television public address systems, photo finishes and the stalls teams, are planning staff cuts. I just hope that this won't reduce the number of stall handlers as we could do with more not less. It is always better when there are plenty of handlers which happens at the bigger meetings and I hope the powers that be will put this point across. It is also much safer for horses and jockeys when the numbers are up.
