"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."

It's very mild once again this morning, and the forecast rain has not quite arrived yet. Haydock had an inspection early this morning and that meeting goes ahead, but the ground will be very heavy. It will also make one hell of a mess of the course and the ground staff will have a big job on their hands to get it back into shape. In what we call the good old days these meetings would have been abandoned, but the pressure on the courses to run whether this be financial or from the television companies is huge.  It's a normal weekend with the horses as we have no runners,  so just good winter exercise. Everybody turned up including part timers and an outside apprentice, Danny Brock,  who is looking to further his career.

As I said yesterday the BHA had a meeting with the Jockeys Association, and the comments coming out of the meeting were areas of common ground. It appears there could be incentives introduced for good behaviour. This is a typical reaction, and it looks like we will just be muddling along for ever.  I  just wish somebody would take the brave move and admit it was all done too quickly and without a trial period.  I feel that we should go back to the drawing board and start again. There is never any comeback when people admit a mistake has been made, and with a bit of common sence and some proper consultation we could all get to the right result.

A good weekend of sport, especially football, with the two best matches in the Premiership on tomorrow.  Man City play Tottenham and the big one according to Phil, who is already making excuses saying that Arsenal are playing their second team, is Manchester United's visit to the Emirates. The Owls match at home today will get plenty of coverage on Sky as they are playing Hartlepool, Jeff Stelling's favourite team.
