Driveway at Dullingham Park Stud

It is -14 this morning and everything is frozen solid including the water pipes in the yard. Even the equine pool is fit to skate on. I keep expecting to see Fen ice racers come flashing by on it. The Heath is fit to canter on though and I have sent just one or two out, with the rest staying in the indoor ride. Even in there it’s very cold but at least you can have a good exercise in safety. The Heathmen have done a great job keeping everything clear and, as I said during the week, it’s very lucky it has not rained and then frozen as it would have been ten times worse.

Astrodonna and foal enjoying the snow

Zenarinda was second again yesterday for the third time running. I won't mention what I thought but you cannot come up the inside on any of these all-weather tracks especially when it's been harrowed a lot. I just can’t understand why the jockeys do it. She will have a rest now and re-group. I am sure there are wins to be had with her in the future.

We have two runners today at Lingfield and one tomorrow at Southwell; today we run Smokey Oakey in the 3:55. He ran a week ago over a mile where he didn’t get the best of rides and I think that, although drawn badly today, in a smaller field he will run much better. Astrolibra owes us nothing as she has won four races for us on the flat and one over hurdles. She runs in the 4:30 in the mile and a half handicap. I am happy enough with her at home and we hope that she can run up to her best here today;  if not I think retirement to the paddocks beckons.

Tomorrow we run Ron in the 1:15 at Southwell - a National Hunt flat race special card. He ran well the first time at Huntingdon and has continued to improve. If he handles the surface he should go well, although you never know if they will until you run them on it.

Four Miracles and her new foal - born yesterday

Four Miracles' colt foal by Refuse To Bend continues to do well. Even at a day old he flies round his box and is really thriving. Topatoo’s filly foal by Rail Link is still in the equine hospital. Angie and I saw her yesterday and she continues to progress. Topatoo was so pleased to see us both and ate packets of Polos. She herself seems fine and I’m sure they will both be home soon.

Eanans Bay (Abbi) Mystery Star (Lauren)

Plenty of sport again this weekend with the rugby on once again. The only jump meeting to go ahead is in Scotland at Musselburgh. Arsenal are away at Sunderland which I’ve told Phil will be a dull 0-0 draw, and the Owls have had the long trip down to Exeter which I fervently hope will bring them another three points. But with the weather as it is I think it is a day for a coffee, pork pie and sitting in front of the T.V with the fire on.

Essential for todays weather!
