A much warmer start to the day

“He dribbles a lot and the opposition don’t like it – you can see it all over their faces.”

Ron Atkinson.

Second lot heading out after going round the indoor ride

It is a much calmer morning thank-goodness and the temperature is actually quite warm outside. All the snow has disappeared completely from the Heath and stud and things are gradually getting back to normal. If the temperature stays like it is I will be using the grass canters very shortly, but as yet we are still just using the all weather tacks, and I have just returned from them now. There are plenty of staff in the yard this morning, even though we have still got a few away on holiday and I can’t wait to have a full complement which never seems to happen now a days as anyone that runs a business will tell you.

Chankillo’s race yesterday was run slower than a snail could travel and consequently didn’t play to his strength. It was one of those days for both him and I that’s best forgotten. Perhaps it could be classed as character building so onwards and upwards.

Battery Power (Robbie)

Qilin’s colt foal is now sucking on his mother after having to be hand fed for 36 hours. Everybody concerned has done a tremendous job. He is a big strong colt who should develop into a cracking horse. Let’s hope so after all the effort that has gone into him already.

Akula (Dan)

Congratulations must go to Des and Marian of Swordlestown Little Stud who sold the sales topper yesterday at Goffs; a filly by Mastercraftsman a half sister to Lilbourne Lad made 200,000 euros. They also sold a Marju colt for 75,000 euros, so a good day at the office. I have already informed Des that a good dinner on him is expected next time we meet up. Those of you who remember Theola who ran for us a few years ago will know that Des and Marian bred her; she is now in France in foal to Azamour.
