Another warm morning and we have had a busy start in the yard, with a few owners visiting to see their horses that are beginning to get into shape for the season. A couple of good canters up the polytrack and grass on Warren Hill were the order of the day; and it was very busy especially at first lot. Everybody and their uncle is using the hills at this time of year and the tractor driver who was harrowing the tracks seems to take great delight in jumping in between strings, which always slows the process down. One or two trainers have been known to call him strange names over the years!

Both Astromancer and Seasonal Blossom had foals last night. Both foals are strong bay colts, one by Royal Applause the other by Medicean. They started at 6:15 last night and Angie got into bed at the same time this morning. A long night was had by everybody and I must give praise to them all. They do a tremendous job on things that nobody really realises. There will be some pictures to follow in the next few days.

Congratulations to Paul Hanagan on becoming Sheik Hamdan’s number one retained rider. The appointment is thoroughly deserved and the position couldn’t be in safer hands. He is a very professional young man who has done brilliantly to be champion jockey for two seasons. I don’t think this accolade could have gone to a nicer person. He will take over from Richard Hills who retires after the Dubai World Cup night, and the transition should go like clockwork. Sheik Hamdan has got himself another proper jockey.
