First lot cantering up Warren Hill turf

A very damp old morning with plenty of wind, and this makes it very cold especially once you are away from the sheltered Flint Cottage. All the horses have done a canter on the grass on Warren Hill, which is just starting to get in good condition after the few days of rain that we have had. We still need plenty to top up the underground levels, and from what I hear this morning it looks like being very unsettled for the next couple of months. Absolutely lovely. I was talking to an owner about taking horses to France if they require softer ground as it tends to get much softer over there, especially in mid-season. You always must have a plan A and B with every horse, as ground and required trip can change very quickly.

I went to a meeting yesterday afternoon on the Newmarket Open Day, which is now a definite go and will be held on Sunday September 23rd. There will be a lot of yards open in the morning and plenty of other activities in the afternoon at the racecourse. It will be a major event, and we have not had one for over ten years. The website for the open day is nearly ready for publication. Through it you can pre-book tickets and brochures, and have a go at the silent auction. I will let you know when it is up and running and put a link on from the site.
