A very well deserved winner of the Longines Ladies Award ...

A lovely spring day

My Guardian Angel (Wajid) leading second lot up Warren Hill polytrack

A very foggy morning again for both first and second lots, but the sun soon appeared and started to burn it away. It’s certainly done its job as it has turned into a beautiful day and the yard is bathed in sunshine. After the usual walk and trot around the indoor ride -  which I do as a matter of course before heading out to the Heath, all horses have had at least one good canter up the Warren Hill polytrack, with all of the two year olds doing a second. By the time that the third lot had returned some of the horses appeared to wish they were over at the pool. Their time will come for this though as I intend to start using the facility in April.

Gary Megson and his wife Barbara with Barbsiz

We were delighted to welcome Gary Megson and his wife Barbara to Flint Cottage this morning. Gary was until recently manager of Sheffield Wednesday, of course, and took the Owls to a strong position in the Championship. It is tremendous that so many people in football are involved in racing and it was especially pleasing for me, an Owls fan for life, when Gary bought a two-year-old for me to train. The filly's name is Barbsiz, and she looks a very promising sort too. I am sure she will give Gary just as much pleasure as the Owls have given me all these years.

The drama goes on at Cheltenham – what a fantastic meeting it is.

It was a shame that the racecourse authorities should have blotted their copybook with that last fence fiasco in the Queen Mother Champion Chase. With Richard Johnson and a photographer receiving treatment, by-pass markers were put out, then withdrawn, then put back across just half of the fence.

Barry Geraghty said afterwards he could easily have jumped the fence and if a jockey of his standing was confused something must have been wrong.

The BHA has defended the racecourse, as you’d expect, but this was a championship race at Cheltenham, not a point-to-point, and there should have been no room for doubts. It was not good enough.

Five Hearts, Battery Power, Shomberg - being observed by The Guv'nor

The racing is still brilliant, though, and with a couple of winners yesterday and a blank day for Phil, the gap between us in out tipping competition has narrowed. We are looking forward to seeing the mighty Big Buck’s this afternoon and it would be great if he could win his fourth World Hurdle and 16th race in a row. What a horse! This is his toughest test though and a few ‘good things’ have already been turned over this week.

The Guv'nor getting feedback after second lot

I see that the Flint Cottage League is 19th in the Telegraph fantasy racing table and when you consider we are competing against about, 3,000 other leagues that is a terrific performance. Keep up the good work!

Our group at the moment is headed at the moment by Andrew Rushmere, with Phil’s wife Sue putting her old man in place by taking second spot, and Ian upholding office pride in third. We’re only half way, though.
