It's Champions weekend ...

A Yorkshire canter day

The string heading out across The Severals

It is another sunny morning after a cold night and we have been very busy getting on with the horses and starting faster work. First lot did three canters finishing with a good Yorkshire Canter up The Al Bahathri on Railway Land. It was a similar work out for second lot, but that finished with a canter up Long Hill. Everything is looking in good shape, their coats have a good sheen on them, and all horses are moving how they should do.

Eanans Bay, Topamichi, Star Of Missouri, Frederick Alfred

There is quite a bit in the Racing Post today with regards to the Channel 4 deal to televise all of the major races. I think everybody is going in the right direction, with plenty of determination to revolutionise this part of the industry. A free to view channel, with all the gems, should be very good for the industry and I hope they get it right.

Lady Bellatrix

I see the retirement of Willie Supple was announced today. He is only 43 but says that the opportunities have dried up for him in Ireland, and that it is a bit of closed shop regards group race winners. There will be a few more good jockeys who are reaching retirement age in the not too distant future, we have already lost Richard Hills, and there will be opportunity aplenty for any young, up and coming stars if they want to take their chance. It won’t fall into their laps, and a strong work ethic, honesty and talent are things that will shine through. We seem to get one or two each generation and it will be interesting over the next few years to see who rises to the top.
