Encouraging reports...

A quieter start to the day

“Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.”

Shomberg (Steve) Cotton Grass (Iain)

This morning it is not quite as bright as it has been, with a bit of hazy cloud which looks like it is going to hang about for most of the day. After yesterday's busy morning we have just been doing one gentle canter with the whole string going up both hills on Bury Side. We are desperate for rain but the forecasters are not giving us any great hope at present. More is the pity.

It is great to see that Synchronised might take his chance in the Grand National. If he did and won, he would be the first horse since Golden Miller in 1934 to complete the double in the same season. A.P. won the National last year as we know, after trying for his whole career, and it would be ironic for him to now win two in a row. But they always say you wait for a bus for ages and then two come along at once. What a great story it would make, and what publicity for the sport. I hope it comes off.

It is Budget Day and, along with all the other tax rises and developments, let's hope that Mr Osborne can announce something that might help our industry. Racing professionals have been lobbying for so long now that it is about time something concrete started to appear. If not, we need to sack the lot and start again.
