Thank goodness that at long last we have had some rain. As Paul Daniels would say - “Not a lot” - but, it was enough to dampen the dust and enable us to canter both of the first two lots up the grass on Warren Hill. I just hope it keeps going and really gets into the ground but, it seems very hit and miss at present.

I mentioned the breeze-up sales yesterday and the first one has already taken place at Kempton. It looked a very tricky market and both the average and median were down on last year, which in this climate is as it should be, with some good value for money in the middle tier. There will be plenty of winners come out of this sale as normal. The vendors shouldn’t be disappointed, as the sale price heights we have seen in the past are not sustainable.

The foals at the stud all continue to grow and develop and we are getting on well with covering the mares for next season. We have had a couple covered this week, one by Zamindar and another went to Royal Applause. It’s amazing how quickly it comes round, one minute they are foals, the next they are in training and the mares back in foal again. The cycle continues. I think this year’s crop are a good lot, and look forward to training them in 2014.
