The Guv'nor giving instructions

Today is the first sunny morning of the week and it may be the last for a few days. It was lovely to be out on the Heath with the horses on such a great morning with very little wind, which always helps. A healthy canter and a pick of good, fresh grass was all we did this morning - with tomorrow’s runners having a pipe-opening canter. All went well.

Rayvin Black leading Joe The Coat and Smokey Oakey

We have three runners today at Yarmouth.  We set off with Five Hearts in the mile and quarter handicap at 2:40. She wears blinkers for the first time today. I put them on her to canter yesterday and she seemed fine in them, so hopefully they may concentrate her mind. If she can put her best foot forward she could be in the frame, but I am still a bit baffled about her trip. In the next race we run both Dine Out and Sleigh Bells. This is a mile and one furlong apprentice selling race. Dine Out must have a chance if she is on a going day, but she can run very in and out. Sleigh Bells has not run since last year when she injured herself and had to have a long rest. She has been working satisfactorily this spring and it will be interesting to see how she runs. She was very green when she ran last year, and let’s hope she can go well.

For any budding jockeys we have a new site on our links page. Steve Smith Eccles and Michael Tebbutt have started their own jockey coaching business. This is all done at the British Racing School and would be a great benefit for any jockey whether it be starting off pony racing or just deciding in middle age to take up race riding, either on the flat or point-to-pointing. Steve and Mike have a great depth of knowledge, they will tell you as it is and give you great support and confidence to go forward and ride on the track.
